The Royal Oak is proud to introduce Head Chef Ben Wilson
I have been working as Chef since 2007 and I have in that time achieved many goals and had many proud moments. One of them includes cooking at the course side restaurant at 'Royal Ascot' where I cooked for Prince Charles at a private event. I had the privilege of winning Britain's favourite burger 2012 and have since then earnt a place in the 'craft guild of chefs'.
I now focus my career on cooking fresh and vibrant dishes using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. I especially enjoy cooking with wild ingredients including game and have taken part in many courses to help expand and refine my skill set in order to bring more to a plate of food, further enhancing the diner's experience.
I have helped previous establishments reach achievements including Derbyshire's 'food and drink pub of the year'. We also maintained our spot in the Michelin guide for over 5 years.
Nordic cuisine is very influential in my food as they have a very raw and ethical way of cooking, including using wild and unusual ingredients that create beautiful dishes.
I would like the Royal Oak to be a modern gastro pub experience for all the community, where customers can come and try new and dynamic dishes that will build us a reputation that secures us a place on the Gastro pub map.
